Leadership in Higher Education Programme:  A Senior Executive Programme

From 9-13 December 2013, Oxford Academy for Education and Development hosted an event entitled ‘Leadership in Higher Education Programme’ which was a second in the series of senior executive programmes for university senior executives. The event was held at St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford and attended by 22 delegates from 12 different countries across the world. The programme hosted high profile speakers from a number of UK universities and higher education institutions who gave an overview of the latest developments in the higher education sector and provided their insights on the best practise in UK universities.

The topics covered during the week included the University Effective Management, Higher Education Policy and Governance, the University of the Future, New Learning and Teaching Strategies, the Role of Internationalisation in HE, Developing Strategies in HE, Research Funding, the Politics of Quality, and also on fast progressive areas of Flexible and Online Learning and the Current Trends in IT in Higher Education.

Some special visits to academic institutions and places of interest were organised for the delegates in addition to the core programme. At the Bodleian Library, the main research library of the University of Oxford, the delegates attended a special ceremony and became members of the library for the duration of the programme. Blackwell’s, an Oxford based famous bookshop, closed its doors to the public to host a unique panel discussion for the delegates on the topic of Academic Publishing. Oxford University Press also offered a tour of its museum and some presentations on their academic services to the universities around the world.  A long-awaited moment was also the opening of the Oxonia University Network which was launched as a part of the programme on 12th December, and hosted many eminent guests from Oxford and UK higher education sector.
