January 2015: Oxford City Academy welcomes MARA (UiTM) to Oxfod 

On 30th January, Oxford City Academy's Chairman received the President of Universiti Tecknologi MARA in Malaysia (UiTM) and three members of his team to discuss further collaborations between the two institutions. The agenda included planning for the first Oxonia international conference in August 2015, co-organising a leadership programme to be hosted by UiTM in Malaysia and staff training and student mobility possibilities. 


December 2014: a 4-day programme, ‘ Leadership in HigherEducation: A Senior Executive Programme – New Horizon

From 9-13 December, we hosted a Leadership in Higher Education Programme at St Anne’s College, Oxford with senior University executives attending from 10 nations including; Sweden, Nigeria, India, Libya, Sri Lanka, the Czech Republic, Greece, Malaysia, Slovenia and the UK. 

The programme was led by high profile speakers from a number of UK universities and higher education institutions who gave an overview of the latest trends and developments in the higher education sector and provided their insights on the best practice in UK universities. During the week, the delegates were also treated to a taste of Oxford’s rich history including a membership ceremony at Oxford University’s famous Bodleian Library and a tour of Oxford University press and Balliol College. The programme concluded with a Certificate Ceremony and a short celebration to mark the first anniversary of the Oxonia University Network.

Malaysia signs MOU with Oxford City Academy

Following successful visit to the University Teknologi MARA in Malaysia in early December, Prof. Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar, Vice Chancellor of UiTM returned the compliment by joining higher education delegates in Oxford as a guest speaker at the Leadership in Higher Education - New Horizons Senior Executive Programme in Oxford.

During his stay, Prof. Abu Bakar signed a Memorandum of Understanding Agreement with Oxford City Academy which took place at St. Anne’s College, Oxford on 12th December 2014 and forges a new collaborative relationship between the two institutions.

1st December: visit to Malaysia

We were delighted to reciprocate a visit to the Islamic International University Malaysia (IIUM), to continue expanding collaborative relationships that were first developed when the IIUM’s Vice-Chancellor came to Oxford and attended the OAED’s Leadership in Higher Education programme in June 2014.

 OAED's Chairman also visited the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to discuss future projects and collaborations with senior University members following the attendance of the Director of their International Office in our International Office programme in September. We are looking forward to welcoming a number of UiTM’s senior staff members to Oxford onto the Senior Executive Leadership Programme (9-13 December) including the Rector and Vice Chancellor.

20 November: Interactive Table Forum – University of Central Europe, Slovakia

Our Chairman visited the University of Central Europe by invitation from the University Director and Founder Dr. Heidy Schwarzova (also Oxonia Network Vice President) to attend a forum on the Interactive Table - an advanced video-conferencing facility currently used by member institutions for ‘live’ distance learning and online course delivery. As a keynote speaker, the Chairman presented on, 'For Better or Worse? Online learning – the unstoppable impact on future HE provision'. 

 With representatives from Toulon - France, St John International University - Italy, Pan Europa - Slovakia as well as some 20 rectors from Universities in Russia and the Ukraine present, it made for a lively day of discussion around current usage of the Interactive Table and brainstorming to capture future training requirements amongst the member universities.

October 2014: visit to Yerevan State Medical University in Armenia

Our team have just returned from a fruitful 5-day visit to Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) to nurture growing relationships and discuss further collaborations that were first forged when delegates from YSMU attended the Leadership in Higher Education programmes in the UK in 2013.

The Chairman and Head of the English Language Programmes were delighted to meet with the senior executives as well as many staff and students from the University. In particular they met with the Director and teachers of the Department for Foreign Languages and the Head of Science and Research at the University to hear more about their International language and current research programmes. The trip was a great success and has sewn the seeds for a number of exciting joint projects ahead. 

September 2014: Oxonia University Network welcomes a new member

 We are delighted to announce that the Oxonia University Network has a brand new university member, Jigawa State University of Nigeria.

 Following his attendance at the recent "Effective Management of a University International Office Today” programme in Oxford, Professor Ribadu, Vice Chancellor of the Jigawa State University said, “Oxford City Academy is a global leader in promoting quality education. Jigawa State University, Kafin Hausa, Nigeria is on board ‘the Oxonia train’.”

Jigawa State University is a fledgling university and joining the Network offers exciting collaboration opportunities for staff and students as well as being a resource of fresh new opportunities and expertise, including valuable links with UK higher education institutions.  We look forward to forging a strong relationship with the University and closely following its development.

September 2014: a 3-day programme entitled ‘Effective Management of a University International Office’ was held

We have just completed our successful International Office programme at St Hilda’s College Oxford with delegates attending from 6 nations.  The week covered a number of valuable topics and the delegates were able to enjoy the charms of Oxford in the unseasonable September sunshine.

16th July 2014 : a one-day leadership programme in ‘Effective Management of Higher Education institutions’ was held

Earlier in July, we were approached by a London-based organisation Global Conferences to deliver a one day bespoke training programme for heads of departments coming from 2 universities based in Kazakhstan. The training took place on 16 July and was held at Somerville College at University of Oxford. 16 university representatives from two kazakhstani universities came to the programme. We were proud to present three expert speakers who covered sessions on Effective University Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Employability as well as Oxford University and its Tutorial System. These were all key topics of interest for the delegates. The training was delivered in English with an instant translation to Russian. 

26th June 2014: Oxonia University Network held its first AGM.

Following the launch of the Oxonia University Network in December 2013, the Honorary Chancellor of the Network Dr. Clark Brundin opened the first Annual General Meeting on 26 June 2014. The AGM, held at New College, Oxford, was represented by member universities of the Oxonia University Network as well as other university members who were participating in our senior executive programme ‘Leadership in Higher Education: A Practical Approach.

13th March 2014: British Council Higher Education Training Contract in Libya

Early in 2014 The British Council invited Oxford City Academy for Education and Development to tender for a workshop training contract in Tripoli, Libya, run in partnership with the Libyan Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR). The bespoke workshop went ahead in March 2014 and was for university senior executives  of financial and administrative affairs. The programme was specially designed to provide delegates with the practical skills they need in leadership, strategy in finance and administration to successfully develop their institutions and the course helped them to enhance their knowledge and skills in this area.

12th December 2013:  Oxonia University Network Launch

We launched a brand new international university network named the ‘Oxonia University Network’ on 12 December 2013 at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. The launch was attended by eminent guests including the Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Tony Brett and senior representatives from the international higher education sector.
