From 20-23rd May 2014, Oxford Academy for Education and Development (OAED) was proud to host an International Office (IO) programme, entitled ‘Effective Management of a University International Office Today’.  The programme was held at St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford and 16 delegates from 7 different countries attended.

Emma Leech, Director of Marketing and Advancement at Loughborough University was the programme Keynote Speaker and presented ‘New Trends, Issues and Challenges in International Affairs’ on the first day . Her session was followed by a workshop on the specific challenges that delegates face in their own institutions.

The second and third day of the programme was delivered by expert Doug Pearce, International Development Officer at the Higher Education Academy, who covered 5 different sessions on the management of university international affairs. His sessions included topics on ‘How to Develop a Successful Strategy for International Office’, ‘How to Manage International Partnerships’, ‘How to Face the Challenges of 2020’, ‘IO Marketing and Digital Marketing’, and ‘How to Develop Trans-National Education Capability’.

The final day, led by Fiona Smart, International & PR Manager at OAED, focused on the importance of networks and how they can work effectively for universities at a local, national and international level.  During the Certificate Ceremony, delegates each received a Certificate of Attendance from Prof. Herman Bell, a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Exeter and member of the OAED academic board.

During the programme, delegates visited Wadham College, one of the largest colleges belonging to Oxford University. Michael Frogatt, the College Admissions Administrator delivered a talk about the admissions process for Wadham and life at the University and College. On Friday, delegates visited the City of Oxford College in Oxford, part of the Activate Learning group. The College is dedicated to  further education and the visit included a tour of the workshops and library as well as an overview of the broad scope of further education offered by the institution.
